Lottery Funding: Upgrading Carelink’s Digital Platform for Faster, Smarter Support
At Carelink, we believe that every moment counts — whether responding to an urgent call for help or ensuring someone feels connected and supported at home. That’s why we are deeply grateful to the Lottery’s COVID-fund, which provided us with a £49,000 grant to upgrade our IT platform, enhance our digital responsiveness, enable home-based working for staff, and secure super-fast, high-performance broadband. These improvements mean we can respond more quickly, securely and effectively to the needs of our customers.
The Digital Shift: Why It Matters
The pandemic accelerated the need for charities like Carelink to become digitally resilient. With staff working remotely and customers relying on technology for connection and safety, the limitations of old hardware, slow broadband and dated systems became more obvious than ever. Thanks to this Lottery funding, we are now able to invest in a modern, cloud-ready platform and replace legacy PCs, ensuring our team can work from home or the office with equal efficiency.
Faster Calls, Better Response
One of the primary benefits of this upgrade is our improved ability to answer calls more quickly. The new platform supports more robust routing, faster logging of incidents, and better access to critical customer data — giving our response team the tools they need to provide effective help when it matters. In a busy environment where every second counts, these improvements make a tangible difference.
Staff Flexibility & Home Working
The transition to remote working during COVID taught us that flexibility is key. With the upgraded IT infrastructure, our staff can now securely connect from home, access customer information, collaborate in real time, and maintain service consistency regardless of location. This means less delay, more resilience in our service delivery, and better support for vulnerable people who rely on us.
Upgrading PCs & Connectivity
The Lottery grant didn’t only fund the major platform upgrade — it also went towards refreshing old PCs and upgrading broadband connectivity. Many of our devices were reaching end-of-life, with slow performance and limited security. By replacing these systems and investing in super-fast, secure broadband, we have ensured our operators can work without lag, without downtime, and with greater protection against cyber-threats.
Why This Investment is Vital for Carelink Customers
For someone using Carelink’s service — particularly in an emergency or during a vulnerable moment — system failure, delay or slow response is not just inconvenient: it can be critical. The upgrades funded by the Lottery ensure:
-
Data is logged and accessed instantly
-
Staff have up-to-date tools and connectivity
-
System outages are minimised
-
Remote working doesn’t compromise service quality
-
Security and privacy remain high standards
A Thank You to the Lottery
We wish to extend our deepest thanks to the Lottery’s COVID-Response Fund for making this investment possible. Their recognition of the importance of digital resilience in community services has enabled Carelink to maintain and improve support for thousands of residents across North East Lincolnshire. With this grant, the service becomes stronger, smarter, and more reliable.
Looking Ahead: What’s Next
The investment has set the stage for further innovation: improved customer portals, remote monitoring enhancements, digital training for staff, and more proactive check-in tools. We are now exploring how technology can enhance wellbeing, not just response. For example, during non-emergency times, we can use the platform to identify patterns, reach out proactively, and ensure people stay connected.
Community Impact
For our customers — older or vulnerable residents, families, carers — this means greater assurance. Knowing that the system behind their service is modern, fast and secure gives peace of mind. It means Carelink is not only ready for emergencies, but equipped for the future of home-based support. It means we can better maintain independence, safety and connection for those who need it most.
