  1. Who we are
  2. What we do

What we do

NEL (North East Lincolnshire) Carelink is a charity based in Grimsby, covering North East Lincolnshire and surrounding areas. We are overseen by Trustees and have a team of 21 staff.

The local authority and partners formed the charity in 1995 to provide telecare equipment and a monitoring centre to support vulnerable people within North East Lincolnshire.

We currently support up to 3000 individuals to remain in their home and keep their independence. We have private customers who pay directly for their alarms as well as specific contracts with the local council, health and housing providers to support the most vulnerable people in the area.

We are registered with the TSA (Telecare Services Authority) the national regulatory body who audit telecare services.  We meet their highest rated Platinum level of service.

We help keep people independent by offering;wrist pendant

  • A pendant worn by the individual. It can be pressed to contact us 24/7 for immediate help and reassurance.
  • We arrange emergency services support if necessary – fire, ambulance, police and we can stay on the line, offering reassurance, until help arrives.
  • We can contact a customer's family/support team to check on an individual if they are struggling and need support.
  • We can also offer reassurance if an individual feels anxious and unsure what to do.

We can include many other pieces of equipment that help individuals stay independent and remain in their home whilst keeping them safe. The equipment can be used to notify us if an individual is having issues and we can check if they are OK.

  • Smoke, CO2, & Flood detectors which monitor levels and will let us know if an individual is at risk.
  • Impact detectors for if an individual falls but they struggle to remember to press their pendant due to dementia/memory issues.
  • Pill dispensers remind our customers when to take medication and will let us know if they have missed their tablet.
  • Wandering alerts attached to a front/back door will alert us when our customers leave their house so we can check they are OK - helpful for people with dementia/memory issues who can wander off without knowing at any time.

Our Installers visit people's homes and spend time understanding our customers needs and recommend equipment to help. We will work with our customers if they are finding it challenging and make sure the equipment is best suited to their situation.

Our 24hrs a day, 365days a year monitoring centre has staff waiting to hear from our customers and they will support individuals to remain independent whilst offering reassurance and peace of mind for individuals and their families/carers.

We can put customers in touch with other services that can help them as we get to know them and become aware if they are  experiencing changes.

    Consider a Keysafe!

We would recommend people having a keysafe fitted when they have telecare as it allows us to let emergency services access the home without the need to break down the door. We are able to arrange fitting for the keysafe with our partners the voluntary organisation Empower who fit on our behalf. We only use keysafe’s recommended by the Police and that are robust.

Help us to start our telecare unit replacement programme ready for 2025. We have 3000 units in people’s home that need replacing before the national analogue telephone switch-off in 2025. Our government’s plan to make everything digital means our units need to be digital too. The new digital units will work faster but are 3 times more expensive then analogue ones. Altogether the cost of this swap will be £450,000 and will take a number of years. Read more
